Ginette Boyer
Wildlife Artist

PROFILE

Some may state that Ginette Boyer's drawings refer mainly to illustration but, since her desired result is to render the resemblance in form, shape and mood, it should be considered closer to the art of portraiture.
Ginette Boyer was born in Montreal on April 24th 1948. She lived her youth mainly in Hull, Québec, Canada where she studied Social Sciences at Ottawa University and Université du Québec in Montréal. From then on, she worked as a researcher until 1976. In 1979, after three years of apprentischip learning the art of pottery, Mrs Boyer opened her workshop and participated in several exhibitions, namely the "Salon des Métiers d'Art de Montréal" where craftsmen of very high calibre are selected for the exhibition.
In 1987, a new course of art arises: breeding Brittany spaniels for the foot hunter under the now famous affix: Élevage de Rouboy. It is through this pathway that Mrs Boyer discovered the true essence of wildlife. As for dog portraits that are commissioned they are also rendered with accuracy.
Still, it is only in July 2007 that the inner desire to draw awakened this, after seing a Renoir exhibition at the National Gallery in Ottawa. Since then, Mrs Boyer obliges herself to draw everyday. She first starts with sketches until she captures the whole of the subject. Once this is achieved, she draws the "original" drawing on either Stonehenge paper or Bristol board with coloured and/or graphite pencils.
